Frequently asked questions/FAQ
Gas detectors

Where should a gas sensor be mounted?

Propane, butane and narcotic gases are heavier than air. They accumulate on the bottom of the car.

Thus a gas sensor should be mounted half way between floor and bed in a vertical surface.

What kind of gas will be detected?

Our gas sensors detect propane, butane and all narcotic gases. The G.A.S.-pro, depending on its equipment level, also carbon monoxide.

Which gases are gas detectors still reacting to? / False alarm?

Gas alarms are often said to be prone to false alarms.
Gas sensors react to bottled gas or anesthetic gas-like substances in certain concentrations.
Deodorants, aftershave, strong cleansing agents, body gases (especially by four-legged friends) or even breath alcohol or the fondue let a sensitive gas detector start.
Despite the temperature compensation, the continuous self-tests and the intelligent software evaluation of the measured values of the sensor, sometimes a false alarm is not excluded.

The reliability in case of emergency comes first:
Better once too often alarm than too little.

PS: Just the right mounting height simply filters out only bad gases (false alarms) decisively.

How does a gas attack work? Which gases are used?

In a robbery or attempted burglary with narcotic gases are often used chemicals from wholesalers. Chloroform or ether are known, but also substances e.g. used in plastics production. In large containers they cost little money and rarely require an identity card.
In the interior, using an injection cannula the liquid chemical passes through through rubber seals or forced ventilation and evaporates there at room temperature to a gas mixture. This fills the vehicle from bottom to top and puts nocturnal sleeping people in a half-sleep.
This half-sleep allows burglars to apply a much higher noise level while still being undetected.

How can you test a gas detector?

Please not with a propane gas bottle! And also methylated spirits or similar are not suitable, but may even damage the sensor head.
A test can be carried out safely with a commercial lighter, should even be done regularly. With a lighter with electronic ignition, simply blow out the flame.

Extension of the sensor cable?

The extension of the sensor cable is possible up to a maximum of 7m. Please use cable of the same (3x0,14) or larger cross section.
